William Stokes

Mr. William Clark Stokes, age 75, passed away on Monday February 22, 2016 at his residence. Visitation was held on Thursday February 25, 2016 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM at Riverwood Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS. Funeral Services were held on Friday February 26, 2016 at 10:00AM at the Jackson Street United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, MS. A graveside service was held on February 26, 2016 at 3:00PM in the Homewood Methodist Cemetery in Forest, MS. Officiating was Dr. Ron Kitchens, Bro. Ryan Thurman, and Bro. Sam McDonald. John Stokes is to read a poem. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Stokes had lived in Brookhaven, MS since 1973 where he moved from Monticello, MS. He was a native of Homewood, MS. He was a member of the Jackson Street United Methodist Church in Brookhaven, MS where he taught Sunday School for over thirty years. He served in the MS Army National Guard for twenty-five years. He was an avid Mississippi State Bulldog fan and loved researching the Bible. He also worked at the MS School for the Blind for over twenty-five years and he was the only sighted person in MS at that time who could read Braille.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Bernice Stokes; one brother, Dr. Billy Ferrell Stokes; half-brothers, Marzell, Curtis, and Rev. Luther Ray Stokes; two half-sisters, Hazel Wolf and Irene Bradford. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rose Stokes of Brookhaven, MS; two sons, Shane Stokes and wife Renee of Brookhaven, MS and Eric Stokes and wife Donna of Brookhaven, MS; one sister, Mary Carol Watkins of Louisville, MS; one brother, Jimmy Stokes and wife Barbara of Petal, MS; six grandchildren, Kayla Chancellor, Madison Stokes, Shelby Stokes, Mary Parker Stokes, Tanner Stokes, and Peyton Stokes; two great grandchildren, Charley Kate Chancellor and Carter Chancellor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Mike Duffie, Tim McDowell, Chris Terrell, Jody Jordan, Jaymie Palmer, and Alfred Laird.
In lieu of flowers: memorials may be sent to Jackson Street United Methodist Church, Brookhaven, MS.
