Max Alman

January 27, 1933 — April 4, 2016

Max Alman, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday April 4, 2016 at his home North of Pelahatchie, MS. Born to S.L. and Grace Alman on January 27, 1933, Max spent his entire life in the Pelahatchie area. His childhood was spent on family land where his love for horses and land grew to become his way of life.
Max is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat, whom he met while they were in college at MSU. Also, by one brother, Buck Alman (Frances); one son, Pete Alman (Ethel); one daughter, Jodie Vaughan (Jimmy); grandchildren, Jamie Bond (Chris), Cole Bilbro (Hanna), Seth Bilbro (Johnnie Ann), and Cayce Alman; one great grandchild, Olivia Bond; numerous nieces and nephews, and special family members, Charlett and Rebecca Comfort and Tracy Hagood.
Max was a member of Hollybush United Methodist Church. He finished high school at Holmes Jr. College, then attended Hinds Jr. College and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Agriculture. While at MSU, Max was on the Cattle Judging team. He and his brother owned Alman Brothers Feed Mill in Brandon for many years. Later in life he was the founder of The Country Meat Packers and the Country Pleasin’ Smoked Sausage. Before selling the Meat Packers, Max found a new hobby in buying and selling real estate and always enjoyed the hunt for new properties and the thrill of the trade. Giving back to the community was part of his life. He served on the Board of Hinds Jr. College and was a member of the Cattleman’s Association as well as many cutting horse association boards. He had recently been honored by the American Quarter Horse Association for 50 years of breeding Quarter Horses.
Max loved helping others, but thought that his helping hand was only good if that person was willing to help himself. He always humbly referred to his Lord and Savior as “the Man upstairs” and knew one day he would be there to meet Him.
