Obituary for Becky Irby

Rebecca Lou Pugh Irby went home to heaven early Saturday morning, May 20, 2017, after fighting a 7-month battle with leukemia. Becky was brave and courageous, filled with the joy of the Lord, to the very end of her earthly life.

Becky was born on February 19, 1944, in New Albany, MS to James and Edna Pugh, the second of 8 children. She was a 1962 graduate of Greenville High School, worked for the Leesburg Water Association for 28 years and lived in Rankin County for over 40 years. She was a beloved member of Leesburg Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class.

Married to Arthur Louis (Buddy) Irby for almost 32 years, he predeceased her in July, 2005. She is survived by her children, Stacy (Rodney) Trest, Susan Irby, Sandra (Shannon) Shivers and David “Bo” (Kerri) Irby; 4 grandchildren, Taylor and Shelby Trest, Connor and Jack Shivers; mother, Edna Pugh; 7 siblings, James (Martha) Pugh, David (Beverly) Pugh, Mary Smith, Dora Chatam, Ray (Debbo) Pugh, John (Barbara) Pugh and Rachel (Donn) Jackson; sister-in-law, Margaret Watts (Jackie); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to count.

Becky leaves a legacy of love and laughter, a life filled to the brim with service to others. She loved everybody and they loved her back. It was impossible not to. She delighted in her children and grandchildren and they were her pride and joy. She will be deeply missed. Because of Becky’s faith in God and trust in her Savior, she is now enjoying the wonders of heaven with her beloved husband, Buddy.

Visitation for Becky will be Monday, May 22, from 5-7 p.m. at the Wolf Funeral Home in Morton, MS. Her funeral will be on Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at Leesburg Baptist Church.
