Mrs. O’Bannon did not know her name was Jessie for several years. The story goes that Bilbo Whatley, a first cousin wanted her to be named after him and he started calling her Billie which stuck. She graduated from Lake High School in 1951 and continued her education at St Dominic’s School of Nursing in Jackson, MS. She then went on to Occupational Nursing, Surgical Nursing and ACLS. Her career was at Lackey Memorial Hospital as Surgical Supervisor, Scott County School nurse, 18 additional years at Lackey Memorial Hospital as Manager of Surgery, ER, Recovery, Purchasing and Inservice. She was also the Occupational Health Nurse for McCarty Farms for 8 years. She retired from nursing in 1998 and did volunteer work for Medical Missions and other civic clubs.

She was a member of various civic clubs which included Forest Garden Club where she served as president from 2005 to 2007; Harperville Homemaker Volunteer Club where she served as president 2007- 2011; La Petite Club, where she served as president 2010 – 2011 and Scott County MHV Council where she served as president 2011-2012. She was also a board member of the Forest Community Arts from 2013 – present.

While Mrs. O’Bannon was in high school she attended Lake Methodist Church. In 1955 she joined Forest United Methodist Church and had continued membership there. She served as President of Sunday School, Decorating Chairman and Communion Chairman. She also served on the Administrative Council, Nominating Committee, Staff/Parish Relations Committee and as Co-Chairman of the Bereavement Committee along with numerous other volunteer events.

Mrs. O’Bannon was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Mr. James T. (Buster) O’Bannon, her parents Virgil and Bertha Evans; brothers, Ernest Neil “Red” Evans and Charles Medford “Pete” Evans; sisters Penny Merle Evans Gill and Iris Lauverne Evans Mabry. I loved this sweet lady. She and my mom, Pat Tate, were cousins and very close friends. She has always held a special place in our family. My father, Jack Hollingsworth, passed away when I was six years old. He had Leukemia and Billie was his nurse. She shared many special stories with us about our Dad. That meant so much. She was a wonderful lady and my prayers are with all of you. Especially her two daughters. I will miss her. ❤️❤️
