Louise Johnston

Louise Fortenberry Johnston, 82, born on October 4, 1939, in Morton, MS went to be with her Savior on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Visitation will be on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM with services to follow at 2:00 PM all taking place at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. Rev. Ken McLemore, Rev. Jess Dilley and Rev. Mark Dearman will be officiating the services all under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services Lake. Burial will follow at Salem Baptist Cemetery.

Louise was raised in the Pea Ridge Community and graduated from Harperville High School and East Central Junior College. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a beautiful soul and was adored by her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake, MS. for many years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, helping with Bible Schools, and serving her Lord in many ways.

Louise was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting pictures, murals, and gourds and loved creating beautiful pieces of artwork. She and her husband, James, enjoyed ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed line dancing with her daughter, Cissy and their friends. She loved playing the piano and one of her favorite hymns to play was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Louise worked for the Scott County School System at Lake for 16 years and served as the Scott County Election Commissioner for 20 years until retirement.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Cleo Fortenberry and her brother Jack Fortenberry. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 62 years, James Johnston; four children, James Jr. “Jim” Johnston (Faye), Emily “Cissy” Gilbert (Don), Sarah “Sally” Thornton (Joe) and John David “Johnny” Johnston (Mandy); one sister, Mandy Fortenberry; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steven Smith, Caleb Butler, Jay Johnston, Luke Johnston, Liam Smith and Don Gilbert. Honorary Pallbearers are Daniel Butler and Ben Butler.
