Madison

Barbara Bailey Marler, a cherished member of her community, departed from this world on March 23, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on September 13, 1939, in Scott County, Mississippi, she had deep roots in the region, living most of her life in Clinton, MS, where she became a beloved figure among her friends and family.

Barbara was a faithful member of Wildwood Baptist Church in Clinton, MS . Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and she found great comfort and purpose within her church community. Barbara's professional life began at the tender age of sixteen when she took a position at Bell South, now recognized as AT&T. It was here that she dedicated over forty years of her life, reflecting her steadfast commitment and work ethic, attributes that she imparted to her family and friends.

An adventurous soul, Barbara loved to travel and explore new places, yet her heart always belonged to her family. She found immense joy in shopping and would take pleasure in spending time with her loved ones, cherishing every moment shared.

Barbara is survived by her three nephews, Michael Johnson (Shelley) of Madison, MS, Nathan Johnson of Pisgah, MS, and Dwayne Bailey (Danyel) of Durham, NC; her niece Michelle Sessums of Philadelphia, MS; and her sister, Cathy Johnson of Forest, MS. She was also a devoted grandmother to Jason Patterson and Randy McCarty, and will be missed by her great-nieces and great-nephews, including McKinley, Mayes, Miller, Harper, Laird, Shiloh, Tierney, Micah, and Delaney, each one carrying a piece of her legacy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Marler, whose absence she felt deeply; her parents, Cecil and Edrie Bailey; her two brothers, Cecil Jr. and Richard Bailey; and her sister, Lois Harrelson.

Visitation will be held at Clifton Baptist Church in Forest, MS, on March 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, followed by a graveside service celebrating her life at 3:00 PM, with a conclusion by 4:00 PM. The warmth and love that Barbara extended towards others will be forever remembered, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
