Peggy was born in Lucedale, Mississippi, on January 6, l942. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was well-known in her community for her selfless love and generous spirit to all she encountered. Peggy was affectionately known as “Mamaw Peggy,” not only to her own grandchildren but even to extended family members. As her family knew, as well as many in the community, Peggy was an amazing cook, and one of her greatest joys was making her family their favorite dishes. She always made sure that at every family function, all family members had a special dish or dessert with them specifically in mind. Rarely, if ever, did she even mention anything about herself. Even during the last months of her illness, she never brought up her own pain or suffering; instead, she constantly asked about the other persons in the room and expressed concern about everyone else’s problems. Her love for her family was evident in all she did. Peggy also took her faith very seriously. She attended Allen Chapel Bible Church in Ludlow, Mississippi, and was a living example of how to live a Christ-like life. She truly lived for others. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Olen Jernigan and Gettie Hancock Jernigan; brothers Houston, L.D., W.J., and Buddy Jernigan, and sisters Waver Daniels, Billy Sue Ratcliff, and Ruby Thornton.
