George Weldon Bates, Jr., 56, a resident of Forest passed away on November 09, 2011 at 9618 Hwy 21, Forest, MS. A visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton on Friday, November 11, 2011 from 5:00 until 9:00 pm and again on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 8:00 until 10:45 am. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Wolf Funeral Services with burial following in the Antioch-Steele Cemetery in Forest, MS. Officiating will be Bro. Reggie Tatum. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton will be in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bates was a lifelong resident of Scott County, MS and was a member of Steele Baptist Church in Forest, MS. He loved the outdoors and flower gardening. He loved spending time with his family and going on cruises to different parts of the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bobbie Jean Bates; one brother Jackie Bates.
He is survived by his wife; Alma Bates of Forest, MS; two daughters, Arlene Monk of Forest, MS; Cynthia Wicker and husband William of Pulaski, MS; four brothers, Michael Bates of Sebastopol, MS; Jerry Bates of Homewood, MS; Larry Bates of Morton, MS; David Bates of Decatur, MS; four sisters, Barbara Sims of Jackson, MS; Patricia Huff of Goodhope, MS; Cheryl Stewart of Magee, MS; Rhonda Steward of Louin, MS; four grandchildren, Nicholas Monk, Jr., Marty Monk, Lance Steward, and Jr. Wicker; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Nick Monk, Travis Bufkin, Tommy Bates, Glen Smith, Lloyd “Lumpy” Scheidler, Chris Bates. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eric Gatewood and H.C. Phillipson.
