Betty Jean Holmes Fleming

Betty Jean Holmes Fleming, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the age of 92. Her Visitation will be held July 8, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 2:15 PM at Branch Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 2:30 PM at Branch Baptist Church with burial at the Midway Methodist Protestant Church Cemetery in the Branch Community. Bro. Michael Giles will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.

Born on April 23, 1932, in Rankin County, Mississippi, to George Washington Holmes and Eula Luree Joyner, Betty was the eldest of four children. She was the cherished sister of Marie Jackson, Wayne Holmes and Jimmy Dale Holmes.

On April 6, 1946, Betty married Clyde B. Fleming and together they raised two children. Clyde and Betty built a home on the same land where she had lived as a child. Betty could often be found working alongside Clyde in his carpentry business or beside him working in the chicken houses. Betty remained Clyde’s dedicated and loving wife until his death on October 25, 1988.

Betty was known as a hard worker, a great cook, and a skilled and passionate quilter. Betty took immense pride in her many beautiful quilts, which will continue to be cherished by her family and friends. Each of her children and grandchildren have many quilts which were made by her hands.

Betty was a devoted mother to her daughter, Hope Fleming of Brandon, MS, and her son, Hugh Fleming (Brenda), also of Brandon, MS. She was the proud Granny of two granddaughters, Lindsey Fleming Durham (David) of Morton, MS, and Courtney Fleming of Brandon, MS. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Grayson Durham and Sutton Durham.

Betty was a long-time resident of the Midway Community of Morton, MS, where she was a member of Branch Baptist Church, before later moving to Brandon, MS.

Pallbearers will be Edward Moore, Jimbo Moore, Lee Jackson, David Durham, Ricky Holmes, and Michael Bilbro.
