Reverend Lester Franklin Burnside age 76, passed away Monday October 21, 2019 at his home in Morton, MS. A visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Tuesday October 22, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday October 23, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 1:50 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday October 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Morton, MS with burial to follow at Carthage Memorial Gardens in Carthage, MS. Reverend Allen Jenkins, Reverend Donnie Grantham and Reverend Baron Price will officiate.
Reverend Burnside was a resident of Morton, MS for the past 40 years and a native of Leake County, MS. He started his career in the construction business after working two jobs in his younger years at the Coca Cola plant and the White Gables Café in Carthage, MS. Reverend Burnside became Assistant Pastor and Sectional Youth Leader at First United Pentecostal Church in Carthage, MS. His move to Morton led him to become Assistant Pastor at the First United Pentecostal Church of Morton under the leadership of Reverend R.F. Watkins. In 1986, he built his first Church, Morton Pentecostal Lighthouse where he pastored for 20 years, he then built his 2nd Church, River of Life, in Morton, MS where he pastored for five years before becoming disabled. In his later years, his grand-children and great-grandchildren were his life.
Reverend Burnside is preceded in death by his parents, Presley and Alma Burnside and twenty brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Burnside of Morton, MS; three children Franklin Burnside Jr. of Morton, MS., Presley Burnside ( Leah) of Morton, MS., and Bobby Burnside ( Sharon) of Morton, MS.; four sisters; Trudy of Philadelphia, MS, Virginia of Texas, Tressie of Philadelphia, MS, Rosie of Texas and brother, Charlie of Carthage, MS; ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Franklin Burnside Jr., Presley Burnside, Bobby Burnside, Josh Burnside, Johnathan Burnside, Will Burnside and Gabriel Burnside.
