Edgar L. “Sleepy” Derrick, 84, a resident of Pulaski passed away Tuesday, October 04, 2011 at his residence. Visitation was held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Wednesday, October 05, 2011 from 5:30 until 8:00 pm and on Thursday, October 06, 2011 at New Goodhope Baptist Church from 10:30 until 10:55 am. Funeral services were on Thursday, October 06, 2011 at 11:00 am, and burial followed in the New Goodhope Baptist Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Joe Crane and Rev. Curtis Roland. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. “Sleepy” was a lifelong resident of Pulaski, MS and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in his early years. He was an accomplished carpenter who built many homes in his career and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Ella Derrick and one sister, Grace Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Derrick of Pulaski, MS; one daughter, Peggy Harrison and husband Willie Earl of Pulaski, MS; two sons, Eddie Derrick and wife Ann of Lena, MS; Randy Derrick and wife Diane of Morton, MS; two brothers, Robert Derrick of Pulaski, MS; Cecil Derrick of Goldthwaite, TX; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Eddie Derrick, Scotty Bowman, Daniel Huggins, Jeff Huggins, Jodie Derrick, Tyler Griffin and Mike Brantley. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Huggins and Triston Derrick.
