Dorothy Regina “Jean” Manning, age 70, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Divericare of Meridian, MS. Her visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services and Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church in Morton, MS. Her services will take place at 11:00 AM. Her burial will follow at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church in Morton, MS. Pastor Willie Jones will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Jean was born on October 20, 1953, in Scott County, Mississippi to the late Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Gladys Manning. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bobby Earby, Sammie Manning, Freddie Manning, William Manning, and Kelly Manning.
Jean accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, where she remained faithful until her health failed. Jean received her education from Morton High School in 1971. She furthered her education at Jackson State University where she studied Elementary Education. After college, she was employed with the Scott County School District as a teacher’s assistant. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to church, and watching sports.
On Monday morning, March 4, 2024, God dispatched an angel to come and take his servant from labor to reward. Leaving to treasure her external memories are her children Veleka Slocum of McKinney, Texas and Julian “Buck” Slocum, Sr. (Chrissy) of Temple, Texas; a very special grandson that she raised as her son, Jymier Slocum of Morton, Mississippi. Four sisters, Katherine Hollis and Lucy Chandler (James) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Minnie Boyd and Nell McGee (Jack) of Morton, Mississippi. Nine grandchildren, Jymier Slocum, Genesis Mann, Jamarion Hardy, Morghan Hobson, Julian Slocum Jr., Jenna, Karly, Jayden, and King Slocum. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
