Gavin R. Freeman, 68, a resident of Morton passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation was held Friday, April 29, 2011 at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS from 3:30 until 8:00 pm and funeral services were Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Morton United Methodist Church. A visitation was held Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Mutual Rights Congregational Methodist Church, Avera, MS with burial following at 3:00 pm in the Mutual Rights Congregational Methodist Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Gary Glazier and Rev. Howard Herring. Wolf Funeral Services of Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Gavin had lived in Morton for the past 42 years moving from Magee and was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church in Morton, MS. He was very active in his church, the We Care mission, the food distribution and visiting the nursing homes and shut-ins and playing golf. He was a people person, who loved meeting with his friends every morning for coffee at the local stores.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Vera Mae Freeman, and one brother, Laverne Freeman.
He is survived by the love of his life and caretaker, Sara Freeman of Morton; one daughter, Cindy Bourgeois and husband Paul of Fayetteville, GA; one son, Sammy Freeman and wife Beverly of Morton; two brothers, James N. Freeman and wife Monika of Ocean Springs; Rev. Glenn Freeman and wife Bettie of Columbia; one grandchild, James Michael Bailey, Jr. and wife Ciera of Morton, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jerry Harris, Richard Grant, Gary Mitchell, Luther Register, Reggie Robertson, and Harry Strohm. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School Class.
