Mr. Derek Hudson, age 48, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at his residence in Madison, MS. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm and Monday, January 21, 2019 from 1:30 pm until 2:50 pm at Wolf Funeral Services, in Morton MS with services following at 3:00pm in Wolf Funeral Services Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Hilliard and Reverend Kevin Cooper. Burial will follow at Independence Methodist Cemetery, in Morton, MS.
Derek was born on May 22, 1970, in Greenville, Mississippi. He graduated from Morton High School in 1988 and attended East Central Community College. One of his greatest high school moments was his guard around touchdown. He loved MHS football and maintained strong ties with many of his football brothers.
Derek was preceded in death by his father, Walter Gerald Hudson. Derek is survived by his best friend and soul mate Lindsey Kirkland of Madison, MS; his parents, Vernon and Linda Crotwell of Morton, MS; three daughters, Macy Brooke Hudson of Morton, MS; Adrian Hall of Pelahatchie, MS; Alley Hudson of Jackson, MS his sister, Gera Bynum (Vince) of Morton, MS; two brothers, Steven Crotwell (Christy) of Pulaski, MS; Stan Crotwell of Forest, MS; his uncle, Andy Henderson of Beaumont, TX; his aunt, Becky Beard (Cooper) of Morton, MS; two nephews, Hudson Bynum and Nicholas Crotwell; five nieces, Madison, Emma, Julia, Kimberly and Katie Crotwell.
Derek was an entrepreneur and had a passion for people. The success of Ratliff Ferry was one of his greatest accomplishments. The customers became his friends, the employees his family. Bridgett, Jennifer, Jessica, and countless other employees were true members of his family. His steaks became somewhat legendary around the Pearl River. He took pride in his business and valued each and every patron. Derek encouraged others to dream and work hard to achieve their own goals.
Derek loved his girls. Macy, Adrienne, and Alley brought him so much joy. Derek was loved and cared for by his soulmate, Lindsey, and his dog, Izzy. The family is also thankful to each friend that cared for him and allowed him to spend his last days at home.
The Pearl River at Ratliff Ferry will forever be a better place because of “D”.
Pallbearers will be Herman Thompson, Don Grant, Brian Harrell, Ken Powell, Dale Joiner and Gary Farmer.
