Dannye L. Hunter, 71, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the home of his special caregiver, Martha Hunter Stobaugh.
Mr. Hunter was a native of Scott County. He was the son of the late Woodrow and Mary Hunter. He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Hunter Duron (Jose) of Ridgeland, MS; his grandson, William Joseph Garner, II; and his step grandson, Erick Duron; his brother Reggie Hunter (Barbara); nieces Tara Hunter Raynes and Silesia Hunter Clark; nephews, Kenneth Hunter, Jim Armstrong, Jr., Shannon Armstrong and Chris Armstrong.
Mr. Hunter graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School in 1965 and practiced law up until the time of his illness approximately three weeks ago. He was a lifetime member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association and was an avid Ole Miss Rebel supporter.
Dannye Hunter served in numerous official capacities during his career, namely: Youth Court Judge, County Attorney, State Bar Commissioner, Governor of Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association, Member of the State Bar Specialization and Certification Committee, President of the Scott County Bar Association, Assistant District Attorney and District Attorney for Eighth Judicial District of Mississippi and Chancery Judge for the Second Judicial District of Mississippi. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest, MS. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard where he earned an award for Sharp Shooter.
Dannye Hunter donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for research.
A Celebration of Dannye Hunter’s Life will be held at the Scott County Courthouse in Forest, MS on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 2:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mr. Hunter expressed that in lieu of flowers that it would be his wishes that any memorials be sent to the “Will Garner Ole Miss Educational Fund” that has been established for his grandson William Joseph Garner, II, at Community Bank.
Mr. Hunter’s family would also like to say a special thank you to all of Dannye’s friends and the doctors and nurses at the University of Mississippi Medical Center that cared for him during his illness as well as Hospice Advantage.
