James Paulton Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, at Baptist Hospital. He was born on September 30, 1940, in Leesburg, MS to Wallace Smith and Clara Lee Simpson Smith.
He graduated from Pelahatchie High School in 1959. He was on the volunteer fire department in Pelahatchie for many years. He was employed by Davis Motor Company for 40 years. After retirement, he spent many years cattle farming and gardening. He was an avid hunter and loved hunting with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by parents Wallace and Clara and brothers Sonny, Earl and Dwight Smith. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Becky Munday Smith; son, Chris Smith (Brigitte), three grandchildren, Brady Ingram (Damion), Kallie and Daulton Smith; sisters, Winnie Joyce Davis, Ruby Rogers, Faye Windham; brothers, Larry and Jimmy Dale Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Aaron Fitzhugh, Ty Windham, Kurt Windham, Sonny Day, Steve Smith and Damion Ingram. Honorary pallbearers are his Leesburg Baptist Church Sunday school class.
James’s visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:20 AM at Leesburg Baptist Church In Morton, MS. His services follow at 11:30 AM. His burial will take place at Leesburg Baptist Cemetery in Morton, MS. Bro. Logan Ellzey and Bro. Jim Burns will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
