Dr. John Wilbur Jones, Jr. age 65 of Pelahatchie, MS. died Thursday December 26, 2013 at UAB Hospital in Alabama. Visitation will be held on Monday December 30, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the New Prospect Cemetery in Rankin County. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. is in charge of the arrangements.
John was born to John Wilbur Jones and Helen Grace Peck Jones on May 9th, 1948. He graduated from Pelahatchie H.S.; he received a B.S. and M.S. from Mississippi State University, and Ph.D. from Iowa State University, all in Agricultural Education.
John taught school at Neshoba Central H.S. (1970’s) and the University of Nebraska- School of Technical Agriculture (1980’s). He worked over 20 years for the Mississippi Department of Education.
John loved God, family, friends, knowledge, and communicating. He had a passion for encouraging others.
John received the gift of a lung transplant in May of 2012, which improved the quality of his life exponentially for the remainder of his days.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and his step-father Grayden Johnson of Vicksburg.
John is survived by his wife Lori, his children Casey Jones (Trey) Bennett, John “Wil” Jones III, Caleb Peder Bernt Jones, Jessica Grace Jones, his brothers Milton, Roger, Seth along with their spouses and children.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Pelahatchie Baptist Church-Missions.
