Roger Starner Jones Sr.

Roger Starner Jones, Sr., 71, passed away at his home in Pelahatchie, MS on February 11, 2022. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. A graveside service will be at New Prospect Cemetery February 20, 2022, at 3:00 PM with Pastor Spencer Sullivan officiating under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.

Roger was born in Brandon, MS, on August 26, 1950. He grew up in Pelahatchie, MS and graduated from Pelahatchie High School, Class of 1968. He received his degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Roger retired from the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services. He was a member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.

Roger also worked in the insurance business for 7 years, 10 years as a towboat/tugboat captain, 31/2 years as a personnel manager for a window and door manufacturer. He served as president of the Metro Jackson Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club International and the Baptist Men’s Ministry at Pelahatchie Baptist Church.

Roger is preceded in death by his father, John Wilbur Jones, Sr.; mother, Grace Peck Jones Johnson; brother, John Wilbur Jones, Jr. He is survived by three sons, Roger Starner Jones, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Henderson M. Jones of Louisville, KY, Jeremiah Jones (Kris) of Tuscaloosa, AL; two brothers, Milton L. Jones (Kathy) of Vicksburg, MS, Seth L. Jones of Pelahatchie, MS; sister-in-law, Lori Olsen Jones of Pelahatchie, MS; three grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Pelahatchie Baptist Church.
