William Scott (Bill) Jones, 83, died Friday, October 2, 2020 at his home in Pulaski, MS surrounded by family. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 12:30PM until 2:00PM at Leaf River Baptist Church in Pineville, MS with services following at the church at 2:00PM. Pastor David Hayes and Pastor Danny Dickerson will officiate the services and burial will be at Pineville-Leaf River Cemetery.
Bill was born October 26, 1936, in Smith County, Mississippi to Carl Lee Jones and Laura Bell Harvey Jones. He graduated from Forest High School in 1955, where he was President of the Future Farmers of America, a member of the football team, Glee Club, Senior Play, 4-H Club and district FFA President. Bill proudly served our country in the Army Reserve. He married La Fay Morehead on January 4, 1958 and they lived in Scott and Smith counties for their 62 years of marriage. Bill was a soybean, cattle and poultry farmer for over 20 years. He was a member of the Gideons International for over 40 years where he spoke at many churches across Mississippi and participated on several missions trips. He graduated from the Missouri Auction School. He was an auctioneer and the owner of Sunbelt Auctions where he focused on large equipment sales. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 siblings and one son, Vic. He is survived by his wife, Fay; daughters, Angie Gainey and her husband Randy of Forest and Meg Eason and her husband Ronald of Laurel; seven grandchildren, Kip Jones (Becky), Tiffany Jordan (Justin), Chelsea Hannah (Brandon), Karson Eason, Skylar Gainey, Kash Eason and Keeton Eason; five great grandchildren, Isabella and Piper Jones, Peyton and Jase Jordan and Cooper Hannah.
Serving as pallbearers are Kip Jones, Justin Jordan, Skylar Gainey, Karson Eason, Kash Eason and Keeton Eason.
The family suggest that memorials be made to Gideons International and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
