Mary Jean Johnson, a beloved member of the Morton community, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at the MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on February 20, 1956, in Isola, Mississippi, she lived her life with grace and dedication, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Morton, MS. She was very proud to live in such a wonderful community with friends and family. Her compassion and nurturing spirit extended beyond her faith; she dedicated several years to serving as a bus driver with Forest Headstart and as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Morton Nursing Home, now known as the Mississippi Care Center.
An exceptional cook, Mary provided warmth and love in her home, always ensuring her family felt cherished. She took great pride in her roles as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving family members, including her devoted husband, Johnny Lee Johnson of Morton, MS, and her children: Tracy Holifield (Angie) of Pulaski, MS; Roger L. Holifield (Nikisha) of Lancaster, OH; and Joshua L. Johnson of Morton, MS. She was also the adoring grandmother of three grandchildren: Tyler Chase Williams (Miesha), Lauryn Alexis Holifield, and Roger Cameron Holifield, as well as three great-grandchildren: Kingston Tyler Lee Williams, Madison Olevia Pearl Williams, and Morgan Elise Lavon Williams.
Mary is survived by her four sisters: Ola Mae Jennings of Carthage, MS; Ocie Mae Jones (John) of Forest, MS; Linda Jennings of Forest, MS; and Hazel Nicks (Willie) of Morton, MS. She also leaves behind a host of step-sisters, step-brothers, nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alex Jennings and Mae Ola Terry; four brothers, Jimmy Lee, James Lee, David Lee, and Calvin Lee Jennings; two sisters, Flossie Mae Champion and Thelma McClain; as well as one step-brother and two step-sisters.
The community is invited to celebrate her life during visitation at Wolf Funeral Services - Morton, located at 3054 Hwy 80 West, Morton, MS, on March 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held the following day, March 22, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM at the same location, followed by her burial at Lovelady Cemetery in Forest, MS, at 12:00 PM.
Mary Jean Johnson's spirit and kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering love for her family and community leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched.
