Charles Wayne Merchant, 80, a resident of Morton passed away Tuesday, November 09, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital. Visitation was at Wolf Funeral Services Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 5:30 until 8:00 pm and on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 9:00 until 10:45 am and services were at 11:00 am in the chapel with burial following in Branch Baptist Cemetery. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Merchant was a lifelong resident of the Forkville and Branch Communities in Scott County and he was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He had owned and operated the Forkville General Store for the past twenty three years and he was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Merchant in 2008, and his son, Reggie Merchant in 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Merchant of Morton; one sister, Virginia Gordon, Morton; one brother, George Merchant, Morton; four grandchildren, Charles Lance Merchant, Candace Holmes, Josh Merchant, and John Mikel Merchant; and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Carl Merchant, Kirk Merchant, Doug Merchant, Tom Merchant, Lee Merchant and Joe Holmes. Honorary pallbearers were Lance, Josh, John Mikel, Ben and Jeff Merchant.
