George D. Merchant

George D. Merchant, 83, a resident of Morton, MS passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, MS. Visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton on Friday, June 01, 2012 from 5:30 until 8:00 pm and on Saturday, June 02, 2012 from 9:00 until 10:45 am. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 02, 2012 at 11:00 am in the chapel with burial in the Morton Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Bro. Earl Clark. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton will be in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. George had lived most of his life in Morton, MS and was a member of First Baptist Church of Morton, MS. He was an active past member of the Morton Lions Club. He enjoyed playing golf and watching golf on TV. He also loved to hunt, fish, work in his yard and help people in their time of need. Mr. Merchant was very active in his church throughout his life and he never met a stranger. He had retired after a lengthy career with Rogers & Shipp in Morton, MS and he had worked at Big 10 in Jackson, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Sadie Merchant; one brother, Charles Merchant.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Merchant of Morton, MS; three sons, Karl Merchant and wife Sharon of Meridian, MS; Kirk Merchant of Meridian, MS; Doug Merchant of Pearl, MS; one daughter, Amy Merchant of Florence, MS; one sister, Virginia Gordon and husband Keith of Forkville, MS; proud grandfather of one grandchild, Matthew Garrett Merchant; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Al Brown, John Wesley Patrick, Lindsey Brock, Rev. Bobo Phillipson, Norman Huggins, and Charlie Barrett.
