Paul Jerry Cross, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on January 17, 1938, in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, Paul was the cherished son of Ruby Lee and Emma Jo Cross.
A proud graduate of Pisgah High School, Paul’s commitment to education led him to further his studies at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Mississippi College, where he cultivated a love for learning that lasted a lifetime. He embodied the spirit of perseverance and curiosity, traits he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Married to the love of his life, Paul embraced his role as a devoted husband, nurturing a warm and loving household filled with laughter. He enjoyed sharing life’s simple pleasures and dedicated countless hours supporting his community, especially reveling in the excitement of East Rankin Academy's basketball games, where you could find him cheering proudly from the front row.
A steadfast member of Leesburg Baptist Church, Paul was deeply rooted in his faith. His joyous demeanor and quick wit made him beloved among friends and family; he brought laughter to every gathering with his infectious smile.
Paul leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is survived by his adoring family, who will remember him not just for his guidance and strength but also for his ability to find humor in life’s moments.
He will forever be remembered as a man who cherished family, community, and the joy of living. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who were touched by his kindness and laughter.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years, Modean Cross; son, John (Darlene) Cross; daughter-in-law, Lisa Cross; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine (Jay) Thompson; Sarah (Kyle) Tucker; Rachel (John) Bowman; Jeremy (Ayla) Cross and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Cross and his parents, Ruby Lee and Emma Cross.
Pallbearers will be David McKay, Dave Boyce, Dan Rouse Boyce, Jeremy Cross, Keith Coghlan and John McKay.
In honor of Paul’s life, a celebration of his legacy will be held at Leesburg Baptist Church on 2/27/2025, with visitation at 9:30 AM and the funeral to follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Paul’s name to East Rankin Academy.
