Mr. Richard Pickett age 84, and a resident of Morton, MS., passed away March 2, 2014 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 5, 2014 from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Thursday March 6, 2014 from 9:00 AM until 1:15 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday March 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Line Creek Baptist Church in Morton, MS. with burial with Military honors to follow in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Scott Walters and Rev. Tal Vardaman. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. will be in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pickett was a lifelong resident of Morton, MS. He was a member of the Line Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was very instrumental in forming the cemetery corporation. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW and the Morton #254 Masonic Lodge. He was an avid MSU Bulldog fan and he enjoyed gardening, farming and fishing. He retired after 39 years with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.
Mr. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, John & Daisy Pickett, one sister, Annie Doris Pickett, one son, Kenneth Michael Pickett and one grandson, Don Vanderford. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Pickett of Morton, MS.; one daughter, Susan Vanderford and husband Donald of Braxton, MS.; two sons, Kent Pickett and wife Betty of Morton, MS.; Mitch Pickett of Morton, MS.; one sister, Bernise Windham of Homewood, MS.; four grandchildren, Chrissie Ryals, and husband David, R.P. Vanderford, Jeremy Vanderford and wife Jessi, Jake Pickett and wife Kayleigh, four great grandchildren, Emma, Chloe, Carsyn, Jaycee, and a number of other relatives.
Pallbearers are Buford Palmer, Randy Shoemaker, R.P. Vanderford, Jeremy Vanderford, David Ryals, and Jake Pickett. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Tommy Hartman, Phillip Hartman, Arnold Olander, Mike Purvis, and Lanny Purvis.
