It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved and remarkable husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Samuel Curtis Porter, of Lake, MS passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 81, in his home surrounded by his family.
Sam was born on July 9, 1943, to Otis and Luvvie Porter in Philadelphia, MS. He was a member of Hazel Baptist Church, served in the United States Army National Guard for eleven years and was employed at Lazy Boy South in Newton, MS for forty-three years.
Sam married the love of his life, Katie Rue Stevens on March 26, 1961, and had three children, Angela Dianne Porter Anderson, Tony Curtis Porter and Samuel Neal Porter. He was a devoted and loving family man, instilling in his children and grandchildren the importance of love, hard work and sacrifice, but most importantly, he wanted to make sure they knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Sam loved the Lord and his family with all his heart. He loved reading the Bible and talking with everyone about it. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, playing dominoes and gardening.
Sam was preceded in death by both his parents, Otis and Luvvie Porter; one sister, Barbara Ann Jones and two brothers-in-law, John Jones and Dale Hollingsworth ; one brother, Billy Porter, and one granddaughter, Brittney Deanne Porter. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Katie(Stevens) Porter; daughter, Angela Anderson (Bill), two sons, Tony Porter (Michelle) and Neal Porter, nine grandchildren, Jessica Burgess (Eric), Kristen Harrison (Ross), Chandler Smith (Isabella), Keli Smith, Jessica Partridge (Andrew), Adam Porter (Livvie), Brandon Cutway, Brianna McGee (Jonathan) and Shelton Porter; eleven great-grandchildren, Noah and Wyatt Harrison, Cameron, Eylin, Beckett, Rex Burgess, Weston and Riley McGee, Aubrey and Asher Partridge, Jaxon Porter and Blakely Smith due in May; five sisters, Sarah Hollingsworth, Delma Posey (Johnny), Helen Griffin (William), Jenny McGee (Danny), and Mary Bounds (David); two brothers, Bobby Porter (Deloris) and Buddy Porter as well as several nieces and nephews.
Sam will be forever remembered for leaving a legacy of love, kindness, selflessness and his love for his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be missed greatly by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we grieve his loss may we celebrate the beautiful life and memory of this precious man. His spirit and memory will live on in the hearts of his family.
Samuel’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. His services will take place in our funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Sharon Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Lake, MS. Bro. Victor Bugg will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
