James Chester Sawyer, Jr.

Mr. James Chester Sawyer, Jr., age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at his residence in Morton, MS. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:50 AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Services will take place in our Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Faulkner Cemetery in Morton, MS. Bro. Joe Crane will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Mr. Sawyer was born to James Chester Sawyer, Sr. and Cleo Risher on December 14, 1937, in Scott County, MS. He lived in Morton, MS most of his life. Mr. Sawyer was a 1957 graduate of Forest High School where he excelled in football and then went to ECCC on a football scholarship. After college he began his career as a USDA Inspector where he served as AFL CIO National Vice President, travelling back and forth from Morton to Washington, D.C. Mr. Sawyer retired in 1994 and enjoyed his life to the fullest.
Mr. Sawyer was preceded in death by his parents, James Chester Sawyer, Sr. and Cleo Risher; four sisters, Mollie, Fredna Jean, Gloria Francis, and Wanda; and one brother, William John. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Shirley Roland Sawyer of Morton, MS; daughter, Suzy Meador (Ray) of Forest, MS; son Tommy Sawyer (Stephanie) of Forest, MS; two sisters, Nancy Ann Milner of Ridgeland, MS and Betty Jane Sirios of San Antonio, TX; grandson, Bryan Meador and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Austin Whittington, Bryan Meador, Brian Roland, Sydney Sawyer, Jonathan Sawyer and Melvin Roland.
