Obituary for Richard L. Stroud Jr.

Richard Lee Stroud Jr. passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2022 at the age of 91. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on July 24, 2022, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Florence, MS.

A native of Lake, MS, Richard lived in Jackson, MS with his loving wife of 68 years, Tommie Wooten Stroud, where they raised their four children. A carpenter by trade, Richard loved hunting, horseback riding, watching old westerns, and playing his guitar. Richard was also proud of his service in the Korean War (Army) and was an active member of American Legion Post 112 for almost fifty years. Richard always had a good story to tell and will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard L. and Willis H. Stroud; his brothers Amos, Bennon, and Glenn Stroud; his sisters Elsie Cooksey, Vondell Gibbs, Bonnie Coleman, and Elizabeth Shelton; and his grandson, Justin Stroud. He is survived by his wife, Tommie; his children – David L. Stroud (Patty), Tommy W. Stroud (Nancy), Linda S. Gilbert (Robert), and Kathy S. Russell (Joe); three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Earline Walters; and many nieces and nephews.
