Dorothy (Joy) Sumerall

Joy Sumerall, age 70, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at her residence in Morton, MS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and Friday, February 24, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 9:50 AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Services will take place in our Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Branch Baptist Cemetery in Morton, MS. Bro Joey Smith will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Joy was born to John Ed Murrah and Laura Burks on December 1, 1952, in Belzoni, MS. She has lived in the Branch Community for the past thirty years. Joy loved watching the Chicago Cubs and loved to judge beauty pageants. In her younger years she loved to play softball and she loved Alabama football.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Ed and Laura Murrah; five sisters, Geri Evans, Clara Melton, Ethel Watson, Linda Barnes and Chris Dobszewicz. Joy is survived by her husband, James Sumerall of Morton, MS; son, Christopher Harrell of Hillsboro, MS; daughter, Angelia Faulkenberry of Brandon, MS; brother, Lee Murrah of Clinton, MS; six grandchildren, Justin Ray Edwards, Cheyenne Nicole Burney, Lanie Grace Johnson, Jacob Ryan Haley, Brandon George Haley and Brayden Cole Harrell and a number of great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Justin Edwards, Brandon Haley, Jacob Haley Marty Barnes, Anthony Macoy and Chaitu Yarlagadda.
