Willie Toney
Willie Toney, 87, a resident of Morton, MS passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his residence. Visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 5:30 until 9:00 pm and on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 12:30 until 1:50 pm. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the chapel at 2:00 pm with burial with full military rites following in Morton Memorial Gardens. Officiating is Rev. Gary Glazier. Eulogies will be delivered by Dr. Howard Clark and Representative Tom Miles. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Toney was born in Mendenhall and had lived in the Cooperville Community for the past thirty-five years and Morton, MS for the past four years. He was a member of the Cooperville Baptist Church in Morton, MS. He was a 1940 graduate of Mendenhall High School where he signed a football scholarship with Ole Miss and played on the freshman team in 1941. The next year he entered the U.S. Army and served 28 years, two tours to the Korean Conflict and one tour to the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army he became a logger and vegetable gardener. He was the Commander of the VFW post #5586 for twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Cleo Toney and one daughter, Mae Thornton.
He is survived by two daughters, Margie Nell Loftis and husband Esley of Mendenhall, MS; Linda Seay of Mendenhall, MS; three grandchildren; Patricia K. Thornton, Tina Harrell and husband Mark, Jeff Thornton and wife Michelle; five great grandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Catherine Westman of Morton, MS.
Pallbearers will be Dan Yates, Billy Atknison, Josh McLemore, Jacob McLemore, Jeff Thornton, and Steven Crotwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ira Donald, Jimmy Lane Cooper, and Tom Hart.
