Vera Elizabeth Rawson was the youngest of eight children born to William Lee and Rosa Allen Rawson on July 4, 1945, in Kosciusko, MS. Vera graduated from high school in Salinas, California. After moving back to MS, she would meet and marry her best friend, Jerry Lee George on May 1, 1965. Vera worked a number of jobs over the years but would later go on to discover her love for caring for senior adults by working as a CNA at Stay Home Nursing Care. A position she saw as much more than a career but as a ministry. Jerry and Vera built a wonderful life together in the Forkville community moving here in 1970. The couple would go on to have five children; Gwen George Davis, Sandra George, the late Curtis George, Brenda George Dearing, and Rachel George Tyson. Vera was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Over the years she served in the children’s area and WMU. She was devoted to studying the Bible and loved participating in her Sunday morning senior Bible study class discussions. She had way of shifting most conversations to goodness and faithfulness of the Lord. Vera cherished spending time with her devoted husband and their five grandchildren, Kristen George Atkins, Trista Dearing O’Quinn, Patrick Dearing, Jacob Tyson, and Dusty Goodson. Vera has two son-in-laws whom she loved, Dean Dearing and Steven Tyson, as well as two grandson-in-laws, Chris Atkins and Wesley O’Quinn. She had many nieces and nephews whom she cherished. A new joy in Vera’s life came with the birth of her first great grandchild, Asher Lee Atkins. Vera’s deepest love was for her Savior who welcomed her home on December 28, 2024. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Lee and Rosa Rawson. She also was the last living sibling following the deaths of Joe Rawson, Raymond Rawson, Billy Rawson, Mary Helen Rawson Tindall, Francis Rawson Carroll, Nadine Rawson Carpenter, and Shirley Rawson Davis. Vera will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We take great comfort in knowing she is in her heavenly home where she longed to be in the end, completely healed and rejoicing at the feet of Jesus.
