Michael Jerome Walden, Sr., affectionately known as” Big Mike”, went to his heavenly home on August 10, 2021. He was born February 5, 1960 to the late J. D. and Pauline Elizabeth Lyles Walden. Visitation will be on Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services. His going home service will be on Sunday August 15, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services under the Portico with Rev Willie Robinson and Rev. Henry Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Lovelady Cemetery under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Big Mike was baptized at Concord Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School and Sunday School teacher. He attended Forest High School where he was a member of the football team. He attended Jackson State University where he also was a member of the football team. He received his Master of Art - Political Science from Jackson State University.
Big Mike was married to Mia Wren Walden and to this union 4 children were born. He married Janet Beamon Walden and to this union 1 child was born.
Big Mike was an educator, coach and entrepreneur. He has taught and coached at Walnut Grove, Leland High School and Newton High. He also taught at Meridian Alternative School.
He was proceeded in death by his parents: J. D. and Pauline Walden; grandparents: Aaron Lyles, Robert and Florence Kirsch; children: Michael Walden, Jr. and Matrice Walden.
Big Mike leaves to cherish his life daughters, Misha Nicole and Milalai Jariisha Jeanette Walden of Jackson, MS, Kizzetta McClendon of Midway, MS; brother, Roosevelt J. Smith (Bobbie) of Forest, MS; sisterly/cousin, Thomasine Griffin; brotherly/cousin, George D. Griffin both of Morton, MS; grandchildren, Mahkyla Jenae Walden, Michael Jerome Walden, III and Hasheen McClendon; 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
