William Henry Wooten

William Henry Wooten, age 94, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. His visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. His services will take place in our Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM. His burial will follow at Salem Baptist Cemetery in Lake, MS. Bro. Jess Dilley will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services. 

William was born on April 29, 1930, to Walter Lewis Wooten and Winnie Davis Pace in the Ringgold Community in Scott, MS. He lived most of his life in Forest, MS. William played Basketball for two years at the University of Florida where he played against the Harlem Globe Trotters. He loved fishing, hunting, and feeding birds and cats. William retired from The Air Force with twenty years of service.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Wooten, his parents, Walter Lewis and Winnie Davis Wooten; his brothers, Eugene Wooten, Wilson Wooten, Lewis Wooten and Roger Wooten; his sister, Patricia Beckwith and his grandson, Mitchell Cooksey. He is survived by his two children, Robert Wooten (Donna) of Panama City, FL and Pat Cooksey of Lake, MS; his three step-children, Phil Mangum (Dixie) of Memphis, TN, Jan Mangum Gardner (Mitchell) of Flowood, MS and Anita Ornburn (Jim) of Panama City, FL; his three sisters, Sarah Mabry of Lake, MS, Tommie Stroud of Jackson, MS and Mary Blackburn of New Orleans LA; his twelve grandchildren, Ashley Wooten (Deidra), Chris Wooten (Ashley), Craig Wooten (Ragan), John Tadlock, Jr. (Kristin), Lee Allen Tadlock (Jessica), Wayland Tadlock (Denisha), Nathan Hollingsworth, Brittany Cooksey, Donna Gurly (Gene), Dawne Davis (Gene), Dana Richardson (Greg) and Jamie Pettis (Jessie); his twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. 

Pallbearers will be Ashley Wooten, Chris Wooten, John Tadlock, Jr., Jamie Pettis, Bob Beckwith and Jerry Wooten.
