Zellene White Posey, a beloved and cherished member of the Salem community, passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 88 in Forest, MS. Born on April 7, 1936, in Lake, MS, Zellene dedicated her life to family, farming, and faith, and her legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her.
Zellene spent most of her days raising chickens, cows, and children, embodying the spirit of devotion and nurturing that defined her character. Her passion for gardening brought joy to her and those around her, as she delighted in sharing the bounty of her labor. Whether tending to her cherished mules, Ada and Ida, or embarking on wagon trail rides through the countryside, her love for the outdoors flourished alongside her deep commitment to family. Cooking and caring for her neighbors were more than just hobbies for Zellene; they were expressions of her love and kindness that will be remembered fondly by all who experienced them.
She graduated from Goodhope High School in 1954, a foundation from which she would build a life rooted in love and service. Over the past 50 years, Zellene has overseen the cemetery at Salem Baptist Church, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her faith.
